Phil Greenwood, PhD., LMFT, LPC

Phil has served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as Vice President, Southwestern Region, from 1993 to 1997, Secretary from 1998 to 2013, President-Elect from 2013 to 2014, and President from 2014 to 2016.  He is currently the Past President of the board.  He worked on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry unit of Centra’s Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, VA, from 1987 to 2013, serving as Family Therapist and Coordinator of Family Therapy.  He has also maintained a private practice since 1988.  Earlier experience included 12 years as a mental health clinician with community service boards both in North Carolina and Virginia. In addition, he has served as a Neuropsychiatric Technician in the US Navy Hospital Corps, has been adjunct faculty at Piedmont Virginia Community College and Mary Baldwin College, and has chaired many professional, church, and community committees.  Phil has a BA in Psychology from Thiel College in Greenville, Pa, (1969), an MS in Child Development and Family Relations from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, (1981), and a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech (1985).  He is married and has two sons, two step-sons, a step-daughter, four grandsons, and three granddaughters.  In his free time he enjoys music, gardening, and spending time with his family.  He bleeds Maroon and Orange 24/7.
